Our Story

In 2024, following several years of stabilizing the school as a result of the Covid experience, the NCCS Board began asking, "What's next?" There was a stirring to renew the school’s vision and grow in depth of love toward God and one another. Out of this time of renewal, a desire grew to establish a community where students were steeped in God’s love and His Word and challenged to think critically. After countless conversations and much prayer, Brookside Christian Academy was born out of this new mission. Brookside seeks to honor the legacy of NCCS by keeping Christ at the center of all its endeavors. It has been, and will continue to be, a community that treasures Christ above all else. It will continue in its desire to create an atmosphere of love, rooted in truth, cultivating rich soil that might bring about deep growth in its students’ character in all areas of life — spiritual, physical and academic.

North County Christian school was founded in 1976 by a small group of families seeking to establish a Christ-honoring private Christian school in Atascadero, California. The faithfulness of God and the dedication of numerous families, teachers and administrators have kept NCCS alive for almost 50 years. Thousands of students were shepherded and loved through countless classroom conversations, sports programs, music recitals, chapels and more. Through seasons of want and abundance, God’s faithful hand sustained NCCS for nearly half a century.

The name “Brookside” stems from Psalm 1 where David describes the one who plants himself deeply in the love of God and delights in His Word. This person is like a “tree planted by streams of water, bearing fruit in each season.” The great hope for students at Brookside is that their roots would grow deep into the soil of God’s love — that they would become resilient, humble image-bearers of the living God.
