Please reach us at info@brooksideacademy.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.
We are located at 6225 Atascadero Mall, Atascadero, CA.
Our school is for students K-12.
We partner with families to provide a program that works best for them. Parents may choose from either a traditional, 5-day educational plan, a 4-day-a-week educational plan, or a 3-Day Core educational plan. You may view those options here.
Like any uniform, school uniforms are a visual reminder of a common purpose (in this case, to learn). Uniforms remove unnecessary distractions that typically divide students (e.g., socio-economic status, name brands, preferences) and promote a common identity. While clothing is often associated as a means of self-expression, uniforms remind students that their primary expression comes from their character and choices as image-bearers of God.
Uniforms will be required, reflecting a change in our school colors. The Uniform Policy can be found here or by navigating to the Enrollment tab and selecting “Uniform Policy.”
Yes. We operate as a non-profit 501(c)3 organization.
We will continue with sports as we have in the past, so long as we are able to. Availability has always been subject to both eligible players (i.e. having enough interest to form a full team) and coaching staff.
There will be after-school care, and we will be working on summer programs for kids that more fully align with our new mission.
Classical education is another term for Liberal Arts, which are foundational to the way God designed us to learn. Classical education is built around the seven liberal arts: the first three are the Trivium (language arts of grammar, logic, and rhetoric), and the second four are the Quadrivium (mathematical arts of arithmetic, geometry, science, and music). An individual who has mastery of words and mastery of numbers can really go on to learn anything. This is how classical education truly lays a foundation for lifelong learning.
The Liberal Arts Tradition: A Philosophy of Christian Classical Education (Kevin Clark and Ravi Jain) is a helpful resource. A review of that book may be found here.
Based upon a “360 degree” assessment of the school mission, academics and finances in the fall of 2024, the Board recognized the need for significant updates to better align our academics with our mission. Our goal was not only to enhance our K-8 academic program but also to launch a high school. After much prayer, thoughtful consideration, and careful evaluation of both long-term and short-term plans, we realized we could move forward sooner than anticipated. This decision allows us to bless our families with an education that equips children with discernment and prepares them for the future.
Latin is one of the most structured and ordered languages, making it an excellent tool for mastering grammar while fostering a deeper appreciation for language. As the root of the Romance languages, it provides a strong foundation for learning other languages. Latin was also the language of Rome during the time of Jesus, offering a unique window into the historical and cultural context of that era. Moreover, a wealth of Christian texts were originally written in Latin, granting access to a rich legacy of theological and historical works.
We chose "learning levels" over traditional age-based grades (K-12) to foster individualized and mastery-based education. This approach recognizes that children learn at different paces and allows students to progress based on their comprehension and skill development rather than being confined to an arbitrary grade level tied to their age.
Here’s why this model is beneficial:
Alignment with Mission: This approach supports the goal of equipping students with discernment and critical thinking by emphasizing depth of learning rather than pace.
There will be intentional gross motor skill activities for the primary students. For older students, PE will only be on Core+ and Enrichment days.
Classes will remain on our current campus at this time. We are so thankful for the graciousness of ABC (Atascadero Bible Church)!
Field trips will not be held on Core Days but may be brought into Core+ or Enrichment days and offered to the students only enrolled on Core days.
We love to bring the community together daily and to sing together each morning before classes begin. It is the start of providing our students an opportunity to set their sights on the Lord and unite our hearts in seeking Him!
Because of the missional change, we want the opportunity to meet with each family to ensure our new program will serve individual families well. It is important both to ensure our families understand what to expect from BCA–and what we’re asking of them–as we partner together in the education and discipling of their children.
There are two opportunities to review the handbook: the first is during the interview request application. Once submitted, you will be sent a link via email as a follow-up to the interview request. (Please note: submitting the interview request is NOT a binding action of enrollment, simply an expression of intent that allows for the next steps. Please complete this process even if you’re not 100% sure on enrollment yet so we can ensure adequate staffing projections.)
Parents must be comfortable with their children being taught based on the statement of faith as well as both the discipline protocol and our new philosophy of education. But please feel free to let us know any disagreements you may have or would like further clarification regarding. In addition to the interview request form, you can reach out to info@brooksideacademy.com with further questions.
There are snacks available for purchase as part of the after-school program, as well as a weekly pre-ordered “Pizza Friday” program available to those enrolled in the Enrichment Day. There will not be lunches or snacks available for purchase during the school day Monday - Thursday.
We are trying to right a budget that has been unhealthy for years. It is our intent that, Lord willing, this will be the only big increase of its kind and future increases will be based on cost of living (inflationary) increases. Please note, the ‘Legacy Credit’ offered to our existing families for the 2025/2026 school year is intended as a one-time discount; however, discounts for multiple-student enrollment from a single family is intended to continue. See the extent of our Tuition & Fees policy here.
We look forward to presenting opportunities with recess, lunchtime, after-school and/or summer school programs, fundraising events, and school-wide banquets related to our eras of time!
We will be posting our schedule once finalized, but it is important to note that Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday will be core academics beginning with math and science, and then moving to humanities. Core+ (Monday) and Enrichment (Friday) schedules will be posted as soon as we know our enrollment numbers
